So, What Do We Do?

We begin our days at 7am in the Facility Management offices with a prayer meeting.   In this first photo, it's one of the elder's birthday.   We have to put party gear on and everyone sings to us.   Someone gives a spiritual thought and prayer, then we are off to our respective jobs.   FM is a hard job in Nauvoo, but its a blessing to serve the Lord and see the results of our labors.

Allan was assigned to the Carpentry Department.   He is happy as a kid in a candy store.   The Heber C. Kimball home needs new shutters.   Allan has all the latest tools to make whatever is required.  With 100 homes/apartments there are plenty of projects for these elders to do.

Fifty-five sets of shutters are required for this job.   They are using cypress wood, which will withstand the elements better.  This will take awhile with lots of routing, sanding and fitting.
The painters take over from there with three coats to get them ready for the humid weather.

I, on the other hand, have been assigned to Housing.   That means I do 'housework'.   What!  I thought I left that home.   My attitude was less than stellar when I found out.   I was downright upset.  Satan jumped on my band wagon and made it worse.   The Lord and I had a chat over the weekend.  Now, I am on board, not totally, but; it will come.

There are three of us that work together.   Sister Naef is in charge.   The other sister also has an attitude.   I feel the tension and they probably do, too.   It dawns on me.   I can either be the 'Problem' or the 'Solution'.  Every day I tell myself, "Be the solution. Be the solution."   Finally, it comes and I begin to really enjoy doing this job. In Housing there are more showers, toilets, sinks and such than I care to count.  This one wasn't too bad.

I told Sister Naef,  "I don't want to clean houses for two years.
Looking at sixty of them brings me to tears.
Here they come sinks, stoves, microwaves and mirrors.
I may change my mind, when we're done and give three cheers

Here's the alternative to Housing.   It's the paint crew.   They are covered in paint all day, every day.   I don't want to be chosen for this group of folks.   This seventy plus year old sister, has an attitude that keeps her and the rest of them going and we love her for it.

Grounds sisters plant the gardens, weed, and have the task of raking leaves from last fall.  Conservation is another option.  This includes cleaning the statues, antiques in the site homes and keeping track of our housing inventory.
